Mardi Jo Link has worked as a police and general assignment reporter, magazine editor, and freelance writer. She is a Heartland bestselling author of the critically acclaimed memoir Bootstrapper--which won the Great Lakes, Great Reads Booksellers' Choice Award and the Michigan Notable Book Award--as well as When Evil Came to Good Hart and Isadore's Secret.
She lives with her family on a small farm in northern Michigan.

Forget romance. This is love between friends.

This book has wit and charm. I love Link's pithy humor which is the hall mark of her writing. If you've read her books before, you know what I mean. But "The Drummond Girls" is different. It has plenty of humor (bear chasing and cop encounters) but Link is really at her best with the reflective, tender moments that come at some of the saddest parts of the story. This book is full of life and hope, but it includes grief, too, which is natural since the book covers a 20-year friendship between 8 best friends.
If you've ever had a group of best friends, or are part of a gang that gets together month after month or year after year, this book is for you. It's wild and irreverent at times, but it speaks to the universal truths of what happens between a group of women who support each other through life's trials. Forget romantic love stories. Drummond Girls speaks to the power of love between friends.

I read this cover to cover in one sitting, which I only do with really good books. A fabulous summer read!
Ms. Link is a wonderful writer & this book has it all. She interweaves a truly great memoir with just enough history & geography. Her love & devotion to the Drummond girls shines through on every page. The humor is spot on and her sensitivity remarkable. I laughed with these girls in their adventures & crazy times, all the while remembering my own.
What I find compelling is the way she drew me in to the hard times; the loss & the pain. From anger to denial, the reader almost feels it first hand. When the details ( like absence of nail polish) stick with you long after the last paragraph, you know you've read a remarkable story."The Drummond Girls" speaks to us in a universal language, of long enduring friendships, of picking up where we leave off, effortlessly & joyfully.

Someone once said that a good memoir makes you nostalgic for experiences you never had. After reading Mardi Jo Link’s “The Drummond Girls” I pined to be a Drummond Girl myself, a member of an all-girl club made up of women who seem to be as different as they are dedicated to each other and who, for over 20 years, have made an annual weekend trip to Drummond Island, Michigan where they party, laugh and bond. This is the story of a particular group of eight very different women who are there for each other no matter what. While Drummond Girl Mardi Jo Link writes this memoir you will feel as though the Drummond Girls speak as one as they ride over the Mackinac bridge towards three days of belly laughs and beer. You may turn a page and stop to remember your own girlfriends, past and present, who may have been older than you, younger than you, from completely different backgrounds, but understand you in a way no one else can and have been there through thick and thin. “The Drummond Girls” is a true tribute to female friendship and women who need nothing but a weekend a year in each others company to make it through the often lonely and trying times we all share as mothers, daughters and wives.
