This book argues that although the US continues to preside over a quasi-imperial system of power based on global military preponderance and financial statecraft, and remains reluctant to recognize the realities global economic convergence, the age of imperial state hegemony is giving way to a new international order characterized by capitalist sovereignty and competition between regional and transnational concentrations of economic power.
This title seeks to interrogate the structure of world order by examining leading approaches to globalization and political economy in international relations and international political economy. Breaking with the classical school, Woodley argues that geopolitics should be understood as a transnational strategic practice employed by powerful state actors, which mirrors predatory corporate rivalry for control over global resources and markets, reproducing the structural conditions for corporate power through the transnational state form of capital.
In a period of increasing geopolitical insecurity and economic instability this title provides an authoritative yet accessible commentary on debates on capitalism and globalization in the wake of the financial crisis. A MULTIPOLAR WORLD IS REPLACING THE AMERICAN EMPIRE IN GLOBAL AFFAIRS

A truly great and cutting edge book. It addresses the interrelated themes of the growth of transnational corporate power in conjunction with the decline of Western hegemony under US leadership. The author argues that we are facing the growing power of a multipolar world--- as I have argued in two of my own books: (1) EXODUS FROM EMPIRE and (2) THE FUTURE OF GLOBAL RELATIONS. Professor Woodley adds an analysis of globalization in the wake of the global financial crisis. The rise of the BRICS, the growing power of regional arrangements such as ASEAN are all examples of a new multipolar world that is filling the vacuum left by the illegal US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The cost of these two war is over $4-Trillion dollars (See the work of Professor Joe Stiglitz). Now, the US must retreat because it cannot support its Empire. It ,must learn to practice what Professor Barry Posen has term "RESTRAINT."
