About the Author
Keith Jamal Hammond national and international, preacher, coach and community advocate. Keith was born in Germany and raised in Augusta, GA. He attended Albany State University, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice and Communications. He later earned a Masters of Divinity degree from Mercer University. Rev. Hammond is an Associate Pastor, and also host a weekly talk show with over 50,000 listeners. "Built to be Broken" is the first of many projects that will be available in the future. Some of Keith's affiliations include: Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., NAACP, National Action Network, and Big Brothers of America.

This book is an excellent read. Story of a boy becoming a man and all of life's challenges. This would be an excellent gift for a young man beginning his journey to college.

“…In the fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud…”, says William Earnest Henley in the famous poem Invictus. In Western captivity, many African-American men go through nights and days of quite pain statistically encased in an endless life of voiceless pain. Keith has captured their voice through his own experience and bravely writes a treaties of survival and victory. Built to Be Broken is a must read for those serious about helping Black men and women answer another bell to continue the fight for justice. After reading Built to Be Broken you will say with Keith, Henley and I, “… ‘My head is bloody, but unbowed’, because ‘I’m Built to Be Broken’!”

Raw and revealing

In his raw writing and storytelling, Keith takes us on a journey from his beginning, through his maturity, and up to his present. It is evident that he wants the reader to be enveloped in his experiences in order to gain understanding. My perception is that he is telling the reader "I was you; I was worse than you; and now I am a better me." He leaves us knowing that he is transitioning towards the best that he can be...and, like him, through love and acceptance (of oneself, of others, and of the spirit), we too can have a testimony that propels us to becoming our best.
